I see and hear it all the time, talking about people being full stack developers. I don't believe they are.

What does it take to be able to call yourself a full stack developer? Are you saying you are an expert at all levels of development.

Is it just web, or is it mobile and desktop too? Are you telling me you are as good at front end user interface development as you are at the server side programming and architecture.

What about the database? How good are you with all of the different database technologies? Do you know all about ORMs and NoSQL databases. Do you know about machine learning and functional programming languages as well as object oriented programming.

Why do people say they are full stack? Why don't you pick a niche and specialise in that area? Can you specialise in full stack? Do you enjoy being a full stack developer? Is there a certain part that you enjoy doing more than the other parts? Why not pick that as your niche instead of saying you can do everything.

I wouldn't say I'm a full stack developer. I would say I am proficient at the front end HTML, CSS and Javascript but I specialise in the architecture and server side coding of web applications. I'm good with SQL, but I'm no DBA.
